First Communion Medals

There are 7 Holy Sacraments in the catholic church, whereby participants become closer to God by allowing themselves to be more fulfilled by Him. The celebration of the first holy communion is one the most important for young members of the church, as it is the first sacrament where they are actively involved and have an appreciation for what is happening. Each year, thousands of primary school children all around the world participate in their first holy communion.

It is common these days for family members and other close friends to present the child, usually in their second grade of primary school, with an appropriate first communion gift. There are many 1st holy communion gifts available, each with its own meaning and purpose.First Holy Communion medals are one of the most appropriate, as it is a piece of jewelry that can be worn close to the heart and they are crafted from quality materials and represent some of the common symbols of the sacrament including the giving of the daily bread, the wine which is presented in the chalice and possibly a crucifix which represents the life that Jesus gave to all mankind.

When you are looking for an appropriate first communion medal, there are a number of considerations. Whether the communion gift is for a boy or girl is the first decision to be made, as some pieces of communion jewelry are more ornate than others.

A holy communion medal though is a perfect gift to present both boys and girls and can be worn on the day of the ceremony. The medals are elegant and simple enough that they do no interfere with any first communion dresses or suits that the children are wearing.

Communion medals are made from either gold, silver or even platinum. Each different precious metal with vary in price depending on the quality of the metal. The medallions vary in shape also. They can be either round, cross shaped or a clove leaf shape (4 way). One of my favorite is the ornate one with a beveled edge and filigree pattern around the edges. My grandmother presented me one when I did my first holy communion and I have kept it for many years as a treasured keepsake.

After you have decided upon an appropriate religious medal for the occasion, then next is to start thinking about all of the other first Communion supplies that can also help make the day complete.
